Transfer from San Juan del Sur to Playa Gigante

Playa Gigante is a small fishing bay up the coast in Tola, north of San Juan del Sur, and one of the easier surf trips to make from here. It is roughly an hour and a half, and the last part is where people get lost.

Delivery from C$184 in town and C$276 to the outer beaches. Every fee is agreed before we set off.

A vehicle loaded with boards and bags for a coastal transfer

Why this one gets booked privately

  • There is no useful direct public route. Doing it on buses means going inland to Rivas and back out to the coast, which turns ninety minutes into most of a day.
  • The turnings off the main road are unmarked and easy to miss, and phone signal is not reliable for checking a map at the moment you need it.
  • With boards it stops being a bus trip at all.
  • A private car also means you choose when to come back, which matters when you are there for the surf.

What to tell us

  • Where exactly in Gigante you are going — the bay itself, or one of the places set back from it. They are a different final stretch.
  • How many passengers, how much luggage, and how many boards.
  • Whether you want the return booked at the same time. For a day trip that is usually the sensible version.
  • If you are carrying on to Popoyo or elsewhere in Tola, say so and we will quote the whole thing rather than two trips.

Price and road conditions

  • Quoted per vehicle, fixed before you travel, with nothing added afterwards for boards or an awkward final approach.
  • The last section is not all paved. In the wet season that changes which vehicle makes sense, and we will say so when quoting rather than on the day.
  • This is a transfer, not a delivery zone — Gigante is outside where we deliver food and groceries, and we would rather be clear about that than take an order we cannot fill.
